Tutorial Recording Notes:

Disclaimer: these are the actual notes I used to record this video and are written in a language you may or may not understand. Hopefully, you find them useful or cool.

  1. Nodes are an essential thing in Davinci Resolve.
  2. It’s like the layer is to Photoshop. You will use multiple nodes to layer on color corrections, grades, and effects in Davinci Resolve.
  3. The active node has the border around it.
  4. Each node is given a number.
  5. Nodes are like layers in Photoshop or After Effects, you can build them up.
  6. You would use separate nodes to affect different elements in your shot.
  7. Node graph is read left to right.
  8. Tab on the left is the media coming in for editing and the tab on the right is the video going out for delivery.
  9. The nodes fill in edits and grades and stuff you’ll be doing before this video gets shipped out.
  10. There are different types of nodes, but for the most part, you’ll be using Serial nodes.
  11. Add new node hotkey: Opt + S/Alt + S
  12. Right click a node a choose to delete it if you want to get rid of one.
  13. Drag a new node into the node tree by dragging a node out in the middle of nowhere onto the graph line and release when you see the plus icon appear.
  14. Cmd/Ctrl + D to toggle nodes on/off (or click the number above the node)
  15. Zoom slider for the node graph. Right-click in open area and choose to clean up the node area to do that.
  16. Reset Node grade in the Nodes menu and it will reset the selected node.
  17. “Reset Grades and keep nodes” will wipe all the stuff from the nodes.
  18. “Reset all grades and nodes” will bring us back to the initial video w/o the new nodes
