LEARN TO MAKE THIS WONKY ANIMATION IN PHOTOSHOP! | We’ll learn to work with the video timeline in Photoshop and edit two different types of transforms to create movement within our movement while animating an object.
In this Photoshop tutorial, we will cut out and patch up a background scene to isolate our model so we can animate her using the Select and Mask tool in Photoshop and also take advantage of the power of Content-Aware Fill and the Healing Brush to make the best patch possible. We’ll then build a set of guides to track where we want the animation to take place and build out a series of keyframes on our timeline to animate the woman and even add a shadow that travels with her and fades away as she moves up off the surface of the water.

Site Exclusive Tutorial Recording Notes:
Disclaimer: these are the actual notes I used to record this video and are written in a language you may or may not understand. Hopefully, you find them useful or cool.
- Rough selection with lasso tool and copy to new layer
- Load that rough selection again and Content-Aware Fill the background
- Use the Healing Brush tool and paint away noticeable edges and correct what needs to be corrected.
- Use the Clone Stamp if needed to clean up harsh edges and fine lines.
- Use Content Aware fill to cover up the reflection in the water in the foreground and tweak that fill with the Healing Brush tool
- Select the model cut-out layer and enter the Select and Mask workspace and use the Refine Edge Brush to select all the edges.
- Clean up the edges with the Brush tool and Shift Edge slider
- Output a Layer Mask for that layer
- Tweak mask as it is needed
- Resize overall image to 1080 tall with the Crop tool (use content aware to extend the background even if it looks bad)
- Open the Timeline panel and create a video timeline
- Stretch video length to 10+ seconds
- Convert her to a Smart Object and animate her moving off screen across a few keyframe to try to build a little bit of a path that she will follow
- After she floats away, go back and rotate her a little bit in between keyframes to make things look a little more natural
- Create a new layer below her and create a small ellipse and blur the shape to create a fake shadow
- Animate this to follow her and lose opacity as she moves across the screen
