In this Adobe Illustrator tutorial, I’ll show you how to create global colors, how to edit global colors, and why they’re so important and useful! I’ll show you how to create a color palette using global color and then apply those colors to artwork and even build out highlights and gradients using tints derived from the global colors. Disclaimer: these are the actual notes I used to record this video and are written in a language you may or may not understand. Hopefully, you find them useful or cool.
- A global color remains linked to its swatch in the Swatches panel, so that if you modify the swatch of the original global color, all objects using that color will be updated.
- Create color palette for watermelon in CMYK using squares. Background, Green rind, Yellow inner rind, red flesh, (highlight will be VERY light tint of rind, darker green extreme shadow, red/pinkish dot color, light blue dot color.
- Alt/Opt drag another swatch onto that Global Swatch or drag the color in the Color panel to swap out the global color
- Global colors work with objects that may have a gradient fill or even have a blend mode affecting them.
- Use this color scheme to colorize the watermelon and then tweak the colors until everything is perfect.
