Tutorial Recording Notes:
Disclaimer: these are the actual notes I used to record this video and are written in a language you may or may not understand. Hopefully, you find them useful or cool.
So, you want to get better at Photoshop? Well, let me steal 90 seconds from you and let’s see if we can learn a thing or two!
- Click the triple dot at the bottom of the toolbox and hold Cmd + Shift + Opt or Ctrl + Shift + Alt while clicking OK to make the secret Banana Tool appear! No functional value, but… it looks cool!
- Apply a Selective Color adjustment layer, choose the Black tones, and slide Black to the left for a nice faded effect. Create a similar effect by lifting the black point in Levels or Curves.
- Convert your layer to a Smart Object and go Filter>Blur Gallery>Tilt-Shift, make a few adjustments and get a tilt-shift effect rivaled by the real-deal tilt-shift lens.
- Create a Rectangle Shape layer and fill it with a color. Convert this to a Smart Object. Use Cmd/Ctrl + J to duplicate this Smart Object and clip it to objects across your design to color them. When the client inevitably requests that every element have a color change, simply double click the Smart Object layer thumbnail and change the color of the Rectangle shape and the color will update across the design project.
- Right-click any tool in the toolbar to instantly see it’s submenu.
- Open the Clone Source Panel and use the rotation option to rotate the head of the Clone stamp to follow curves!
- Don’t sleep on the Color and Hue blend modes. Use the Brush tool to paint over a part of your image and change the blend mode of that layer to Color or Hue. It’s almost like magic.
- Make using the Pen Tool a little bit easier by hitting the little gear icon in the top toolbar and tick on “Rubber Band” for a sneak peak at where the path will go when you draw it.
- For a more dramatic urban or cityscape shot add a Color Lookup Table and use the Drop Blues LUT to instantly infuse drama!
