Adobe created a pretty cool and very fun Photoshop quiz. You have to guess whether the photo is a product of Photoshop work and manipulation, or not. I scored 21/25. Beat me by playing now!
The [Amazing] Lily Drone Camera
Lily, a California based drone company has generated an immense amount of buzz this week when they launched a self-piloted drone which can not only follow you, but also can be quickly set to perform specific kinds of shots like a simple track, a side panning shot, a shot that circles around you, and it appears, even more. The system appears to work by having a simple watch-like band you place around your wrist and which you use to set the flight controls; then you just throw it into the air and away it goes! Lily says that currently only one drone can follow you at a time, but that they are working on developing the software to have multiple drones following the same target. Get the skinny here!
Pro photographer, cheap camera
With nothing more than the lusty 0.3MP camera on a VTech “smart watch”, photographer Gary Tyson was the latest photographer to be challenged in DigitalRev TV’s “Pro Photographer, Cheap Camera” challenge. The eye of the photographer is the most valuable thing. I’m not a terribly huge fan of his photos here, but I’ve never worked with a smart watch camera on the streets of a foreign city either. Oh, all the photos look like they got that “Oil Paint” filter that Adobe included in one of two versions of Photoshop, but recently discontinued.
Hyperlapse to complete with Hyperlapse
Microsoft released an app called “Hyperlapse”. It may sound familiar because it is! Instagram released a Hyperlapse app called “Hyperlapse” about a year ago. Instagram’s hyperlapse app allows you to shoot video and speed it up to incredibly fast levels 2x, 4x, 8x, and higher and output an interesting looking finished video. The Microsoft hyperlapse app does the same thing, however it also adds some pretty impressive stabilization to the finished shot as well. Right now it is only available on Android/Windows mobile devices. There is also a Pro version available for desktop PC’s.
Image Identification
An amazing new service from Wolfram that claims to be able to identify objects within photos simply by dropping them into the web app. It is shockingly accurate and sometimes identifies objects more specifically than one would think. It’s exciting to imagine this as a service that would help boost Google images to an even great stratosphere of online image search.

Ways to Design a New Logo on a Budget
Depending on what your idea of “a budget” is you could be setting yourself up to get something beautiful or something absolutely awful. As a new business or startup owner getting the branding right is a big step of getting the product out in a concise, consistent, and professional manner. I wouldn’t tell a client to blow money on a logo just so they can say they spent a lot, but I also would look to the artist first and consider the cost of getting a really great, long-lasting logo. While saving money is great, trading money for a bad logo is like throwing money away–you won’t have anything to show for it.

Facebook Instant Articles
Facebook just launched a fast new way to load and read longer form articles online called “Instant Articles”. On the Facebook media blog they say
“Today we’re excited to introduce Instant Articles, a new product for publishers to create fast, interactive articles on Facebook.
As more people get their news on mobile devices, we want to make the experience faster and richer on Facebook. People share a lot of articles on Facebook, particularly on our mobile app. To date, however, these stories take an average of eight seconds to load, by far the slowest single content type on Facebook. Instant Articles makes the reading experience as much as ten times faster than standard mobile web articles.”
I personally love the new features and speed of the articles. Videos play automatically as you scroll through the article and the edge-to-edge experience is fast, responsive, and immersive. Great job by Facebook on this one. Check it out here »
