5 FAST & EASY Visual Effects in Premiere Pro

In this Premiere Pro tutorial, we’ll talk about creating 5 different video effects in Premiere Pro. We will create a dolly zoom (or vertigo) effect, a VHS effect, a pulsing glitching effect, a 2x Speed ramped effect, and a cinematic camera + movement effect all using simple effects and timeline animation in Premiere Pro! Disclaimer: these are the actual notes I used to record this video and are written in a language you may or may not understand. Hopefully, you find them useful or cool.

  1. 1. Dolly Zoom Effect
  2. Use the clip of the dude in the library with the clip reversed so it is zooming out
  3. Add Transform Effect and add a Scale keyframe to the first frame
  4. Move four seconds into the clip and set the Scale to 150% and Ease with Auto Bezier
  5. Show this with the kid in library clip and the bed clip
  6. 2. VHS effect
  7. Make the cut where you want the VHS effect
  8. Add Lumetri Color
  9. Contrast: 25
  10. Shadows: -35
  11. Whites: 10
  12. Blacks: 10
  13. Saturation: 45
  14. Add the Emboss effect
  15. Direction: 45º
  16. Relief: 3
  17. Contrast: 300
  18. Blend with Original: 80%
  19. Add Color Emboss effect
  20. Direction: 45º
  21. Relief: 5
  22. Contrast: 100
  23. Blend with Original: 80%
  24. Add Shadow/Highlight effect
  25. Shadow amount: 50
  26. Highlight amount: 0
  27. Blend with Original: 35%
  28. Add Noise effect
  29. Amount: 3%
  30. Go download a video from YouTube with static effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zoJavBcU5o
  31. Use this YouTube downloader: https://www.onlinevideoconverter.com/video-converter
  32. Open the VHS effect in the preview panel and set In/Out of the piece you want and place it
  33. Drag into place and trim it up
  34. Scale to frame size
  35. Set to Screen blend mode
  36. To change the audio, add the AUGraphicEQ effect
  37. 3. Pulse Glitching Effect
  38. Duplicate the video to track above
  39. Add Channel Mixer effect
  40. Red-Red: 100
  41. All others ZERO
  42. Add Wave Warp effect
  43. Add Mosaic effect
  44. Set to Lighten blend mode
  45. Duplicate this clip up to next track and change Channel Mixer to Green-Green: 100 and all others ZERO
  46. Repeat the process to create a blue effect above all this.
  47. 4. Double Speed Ramp
  48. Place 03-clip and send to AE and warp stabilize
  49. Right-click and choose Show Clip Keyframes>Time Remapping>Speed
  50. Move 20 frames in from start and end of clip and Cmd/Ctrl + click to drop a keyframe for the speed ramp
  51. Select the inner line and drag up to 1000%
  52. Use the faders on the endes to fade in/out
  53. Cut the clip at the outer edges of both fades and speed this clip up to 1000%
  54. 5. Cinematic movement
  55. Adjustment layer + Crop set top/bottom to 13%
  56. Animate a zoom in to 140% or some kind of camera tilt (up/down)
  57. The key is slow and smooth movement whether done in camera or stretched to work in post production.
